Getting started by putting your ideas on paper
As with any idea for a new product design; be it a fishing lure, or a house; we must first begin with a design plan.
The top right design is one of the simplest of common Crank-baits. However; you will discover how this simplest of lure designs can be modified into many different hook-set configurations.
The bottom right design is somewhat more complex. Whatever your design may be; once the proper foundation is set, it is easy to build, modify, improve on, and fine tune your ideas from there.
Putting Your Ideas on Paper
Before your idea of the perfect fishing lure can be made into an operational object; many other processes must be completed first. Step one is to put your ideas on paper.
For demonstration purposes; the TRUEFLEX Imagineering TF 2.5 Series (Lipless) Crank Bait that includes a wire eye Line & Hook Set Harness will be used as a model throughout most of this course of instruction. Also see Page 2. for many other hook-set configurations of this model.
Fig. 1. (Right Column) is a sample scale drawing you are licensed to use and duplicate. I recommend that you use this design for your first master plug, mold, and lure making project.
1. Create a mechanical drawing of your lure design at 100% scale (actual size) on grid paper. Fig. 1. Or, draw vertical & horizontal grid lines thru your drawing with 1/4" spacing.
2. Draw location dots (seen in red) where the image and grid lines meet. Fig. 1.
3. Plot location of line and hook-set eyes (the larger black dots in Fig. 1.); also approximate location of ballast lead, if one is required. Fig. 1. This drawing will aid in transferring your desing onto the Master Plug Sculpting Block.
