Sculpting the Lure Body (Continued)
24. With your assortment of different size and shape sanding tools (with #80 dry sand paper); begin shaping the sculpting block by sanding away more excess material outside the design drawing on the sculpting block. You may also begin rounding off corners, where your shape needs to be rounded. Stop using #80 Sand paper before you cut into the final design lines.
The closer you get to the final shape; the finer the grit of sand paper will be used. You will begin the shaping process with #80 dry sand paper, and finish with #400 wet sand paper. Fig. 17. Note: The larger the number of the sand paper, the finer the grit of the sand paper.
you are now sculpting this shape. If, at any time, you over cut the shape; you may add back that portion by mixing a small batch of Mold & Casting Compound Paste, and reapplying it to the over cut area. The “add back”, or “off-and-on-again” process allows you to make corrections and adjustments to the lure body shape as it is being sculpted. See detailes of the “off-and-on-again” precedure on following pages.
When shaping with sand paper; always have the sand paper backed with a rigid block of appropriate shape. This will help prevent uneven cutting.
