Applying the Tooling Gel Coat
59. Make sure your master plug is clean and dry. At this point. Clamp the master plug firmly into the vice-grip holding tool. This will a full range of turning and tilting the master plug while applying the tooling gel coat. Fig 53.
60. Prepare and catalyze only the portion of gel coat required to final coat the master plug. Use the same mixing formula as for primer (Page 17). Refer to page 16 for air brush settings.
61. Turn the Master Plug to all angles while applying three to six even coats of Tooling Gel Coat. Allow three to five minutes flash time between coats. Be careful not to over wet each coat. This material will cure to a high gloss finish. Let stand 24 hours. Fig 54.
64. Use a razor knife to clean away tooling gel coat and primer from the wire eyes. The primer and gel coat should chip off easily. Fig. 55.
63.If orang peel, or dimpling occurred during gel coat application; use #600 wet sand paper to polish-sand the master plug. Fig. 56.
64. Apply three coats of paste wax mold release, and polish. No further treatment is necessary. The master plug is now ready for mold making. Fig. 57.
