Sculpting the Lure Body
Please notice, at the top of this page, it says “Sculpting the Lure Body”. It does not Say “Carving” the Lure Design”. There is a big difference between sculpting and carving. If you ask a wood carver or a stone carver how they manage to turn a solid piece of raw wood or stone into something of a predetermined and desired shape; they will tell you it is very simple: “You just remove that portion of the shape that doesn’t look like the shape you want”. The problem with this is that you only get one chance to do it right the first time. It takes years of study and practice to become proficient at carving. Sculpting; on the other hand; is an on-again-off-again process. Think of your sculpting block as a lump of rigid clay that you can push around, take away from, or add to until you have just exactly the shape you want. So; do not fear that you may not have a lot of talent or ability as a carver. You don’t need it.

23. At this point; your sculpting block should
resemble the images in Fig. 16.
