Assemble & Register the Mold Halves
20. Place both mold body halves together, glass faces inward. Align the mold body halves by placing them on a flat and firm work surface. The mold body halves may not be identical in size. Once you have aligned two sides of each mold body half together, clamp them firmly together with one or more C-clamps. Fig. 13.
21. Using a door type hinge; Align the hinge to the end side of both mold body halves, and draw the outline of the hinge, and mark the hinge screw holes. Fig. 13.
22. Remove the hinge, and drill (smaller than screw size) pilot holes in the mold body halves. Reinstall the hinge with screws. Be careful not to disturb the alignment of the mold halves, or allow the to gap, while installing the hinge. Fig 14.
23. To make all sides of the blank mold bodies evenly matched; place hinged mold blank into a table vice, use sanding block with #80 dry sand paper to remove uneven high points on both mold halves. Fig. 14. & Fig. 15.
24. Open Mold Blank. Place on work surface; Glass Face side up. Place the Master Plug in the center of the Mold Face; nose towards the hinge, and back up. Fig. 16.
25. Trace a line around the Master Plug. This will indicate the location of the Master Plug Mold Cavity. From this; the location of all other Mold Accessories (Registration Pins, Air Sprue and Injection Canal etc.) Can be plotted. Fig. 16. Using the Master Plug outline as a gage; draw another outline around the Master Plug outline approximately 1/8th inch away (indicated by black line). Fig. 16.
26. Mark the center of the Registration Pin holes .75” inch from each mold half corner. Drill 3/8” holes approximately 1/2” inch deep. Fig. 17.
