Wire Eye Alignment Beds.
The wire eyes, and their location in the lure body are an extremely important element in your lure design. Therefore; we want to transfer wire eye locations to the left & right mold halves as accurately as possible.
Wash the mold half, and master plug in tap water to remove all previous mold release. Let dry completely.
70. Fig. 71. & Fig. 72. Demonstrate a handy mold release spraying and drying rack. Fig. 73. Demonstrates a previous method of applying spray-on mold release. Either way; the master plug and wire eyes require a good, even application of mold release, at this point.
71. With exacto knife; scrape any remaining shaping wax from the wire eye beds until they are clean to the base mold making material. Be careful not to scratch the master plug cavity. Wash clean and dry the mold half completely. Fig. 74.
72. With a small artist’s flat brush; Use paste mold release to protect the mold face around the wire eye beds and inside the master plug cavity near the wire eye beds. Do not apply mold release inside the wire eye beds. Fig. 75.
REMINDER: I may use the term: “let the mold release dry”. TFI Mold Release is made of concentrated dish washing liquid and rubbing alcohol. It never dries; but does evaporate to a micro thin film. This film will always be slick to the touch. You may consider TFI Mold Release to dry when it loses it’s wet, glossy look, and appears to have a foggy, matt finish.
73. When the mold release, applied to the master plug has dried; you may grip the master plug body with fingers. Carefully reinstall the master plug in the master plug cavity. Be careful not to touch the wire eyes onto the wire eye beds. Fig. 76.
74. Pres down on the master plug firmly and evenly until all surfaces of the master plug are tightly seated into the master plug cavity. Fig. 77. & Fig. 78.
75. Use previous M&CC>Small Batch making instructions to prepare enough M&CC to fill the wire eye beds. Use the tip of the pallet knife to apply the M&CC onto and into the wire eye beds. Fig. 79.
76. Force the M&CC down and over the wire eyes until the wire eye beds are filled with M&CC. Fig. 80.
NOTE: The master plug should slip back into the master plug cavity easily. If it feels very tight going back in, or doesn’t feel like it is seating properly; stop. Set the master plug aside. There may be a significant temperature difference between the master plug and the mold half block. Use a hair dryer to pre-warm the mold block. The mold block will expand slightly (not enough for you to see). This will ease reinstalling the master plug into the master plug cavity.
The M&CC is illustrated in blue here for the sake of graphic contrast only.
