1. Open the mold on a flat surface. With airbrush and spray mold release; apply a light mist coat of mold release on all mold cavity and mold face surfaces. It is a good idea to spin the mold as the mold release is being applied. You may consider making a “Lazy Susan” device to spin the mold during the mold release application. Fig. 1. Apply up to three coats of mold release. Let each dry for 5 minutes inbetween coats. Let the last coat dry 10 minutes. Do not over-wet, or puddle the mold release.
2. Insert pre-fab wire eyes into the wire eye beds. Fig. 2. If the wire eyes do not hold in place; apply a drop of shaping wax to hold the wire eyes in the propper position.
3. Make an appropriate amount of M&CC to fill both the right and left master plug cavities. Pour the M&CC into both mold half cavities to level with the mold face. Slightly more than enough is OK. The excess will squeeze out. Fig. 3.
4. Close the right mold half onto the left mold half. Hold the mold closed firmly. Do not re-open the mold. Fig. 4. Place the mold in a bench vice. Close the vice firmly. Do not over thighten the vice, or cause mold distortion by over-tighteneing. Fig. 5.
5. Let the mold stand closed for thirty minutes to one hour. Touch test the remaining M&CC left over in the mixing cup. If the M&CC is cool to the touch; the mold is ready to open. Fig. 6.
6. The opened mold will look like Fig. 7. There will be a paper thin amount of mold flash around the master plug body. Once again; touch test the master plug body. If it is cool; remove the master plug body, with mold flash attached; from the mold. It should look like Fig. 8.
7. When the new master plug M&CC is completely cured; it will be very rigid. Break away the mold flash to near the master plug body Fig. 9.
8. Refer to Book #1, Chapter I, Finishing the Master Plug for Mold Making to make the new master plug copy into a new master Plug for Mold Making. Fig. 10.
It is a good idea to make several copies of your fishing lure design, using this method.
1. Now you have a copy of your design that can be mailed to yourself to establish an un-deniable date of orign of your lure design; per instruction in: Supporting Book: The Business>Patents & Copyrights.
2. When you develop your lure design to the point of accelerated production; you will need multiple copies of the master plug to make multiple cavity molds.
3. If; in the event you loose a master plug during the mold making proscess; you have back-up copies to begin again.
4. You will have additional copies of your basic lure design that can be altered during the development, and fine tuning of your lure design.
