1.Typically; freshwater lure bodies (crank-baits without ad-on trailers) are from 2” to 8” long. Saltwater lures get much larger. Regardless of the physical size of a lure; the shape is still the shape. The shape (design configuration) of a lure body will always determine the behavior of the lure during forward motion.
There are myriad variables to consider when settling on a final size for your lure design. I have seen some very large fish taken on very small lures, and some fish caught on lures as big as they are. So; who really knows how big the perfect lure design sould be. Here again; we should consider “Matching the Hatch”.

By grid transfer scaling; the physical size of a fishing lure can be as large or as small as you want it to be. The demonstration drawings featured here will not have any set dimensions. lure designs will be drawn on 1/4” grid paper as a scale reference (Fig. 1. right).
You can up-scale or down-scale the final physical size of these designs by using a method called: Grid Transfer Scale. Example: If you want a lure to be 200% (twice as big) as these drawings; transfer the drawing onto 1/2” grid paper. Or; 1/8” grid paper to make it 50% (half as big). Re-draw the design image one grid at a time. Figure 1.
