HydroSpan™ Expanding Urethane for easily enlarging patterns and master plugs.
HydroSpan™ works like a 3 dimensional copy machine enlarging any shape, pattern or design in perfect proportion and detail by 60% each expansion. There is no need for high dollar, computerized imaging router systems. You can increase the size of fishing lure bodies, patterns, molds, art castings, or original art works without sculpting new masters.
Get on bottom fast! By using HydroSpan Polymer 3D expansion methods; a popular, but smaller freshwater lure design can easily be enlarged to saltwater sizes and weights. This jointed jig design makes a great, snag resistant rock fish & halibut lure.
LEAD CAST JIGS, Adding Skirts
For my money; there is only one kind of trailer (skirt) add-on that needs to be attached to a jig, or lure body. That is a soft plastic (plastisol) Tube Bait. Tube Baits are manufactured in just about any color combination imaginable, and up to ½”x5” in size. Among many other features of the tube bait, it can be easily altered to become a slip-on, jointed tail, or the tentacles of smaller Squid type lure.
1. Since the name “Tube Bait” comes from it’s obvious tubular shape; it stands to reason that a tubular object will fit inside. If your lure body is non-tubular in shape, such as our example here, a tubular receiver section will have to be added to the lure body master plug prior to mold making. The expansion ring is optional, but helps hold the modified tube bait in place. Fig 1. & 2.
2. Cut the head end of the tube bait off leaving enough un-split portion of the tube to fit over the lure body receiver. Fig. 3.
3. For fishing purposes; the tube bait can be glued on by applying a touch of Krazy Glue to the receiver end of the lure body. Turn the modified tube bait in-side-out. Slip it onto the lure body, then pull the tail-end back to be right-side-out. While the tube bait is in-side-out, attach the tail hook with a split ring. Fig. 4.
4. The finished modified tube bait skirt application should look like. Fig. 5.
