The extreme dive angle bill (fluke) and added ballast weight cause the larger saltwater, trolling version, to run as deep as 40 feet when trolled at 6 to 12kts.

Spin Casting/Trolling/Bottom Fishing Squid
As you can see; This design is very similiar to it’s big brother (above). Besides being smaller; the diving bill (fluke) and the body are one piece, and the hookset harness plate is shorter, outside the body. In proportion; the ballast is larger and heavier for bottion fishing (jigging).
The amount of ballast you design into a lure body should be determined by the kind of fishing the lure is intended to be used for.
Less ballast in this design makes for excellent light tackle, saltwater, fishing.
CONVENTIONAL PLUNGER HEAD SQUIDS
Historically; the single most productive big game fishing lure of all time! The Plunger Head Design has captured more 1,000+lb. marlin and trophy pelagic fish than any other lure in the history of saltwater game fishing.
The Plunger Head, (AKA “The Door Nob”) big game, fishing lure design is the most common and varied of all saltwater lures. It seams the head shape, size, color and skirt combinations are as limitless as phone numbers.
TRUEFLEX Imagineers have taken this very popular and successful design two steps further with the addition of a light stick socket and a weighted inner core. As with most any saltwater fishing lure; heavier means deeper, and deeper means putting your lure where the big fish are.
