SOFT BODY CRANK-BIATS. An Introduction to PVA Lure Design
Please recall some words from The READ ME pages. There are quite literally hundreds of different materials that fishing lure bodies can be made of. After exhaustive trial & error testing of most all available lure making materials; I have chosen two I believe to be best for micro factory lure makers.
First is: PVA (Poly Vinyl Acetate) PVA is not a new form of thermal plastic invented by Trueflex Imagineering. However; TFI did invent a methodology for making fishing lures from PVA. PVA has been around for a long time. PVA is a common hot melt adhesive primarily used in the packaging industry. Most people are familiar with PVA as the common hot melt, glue stick. There are over 30 different formulations of packaging PVA; from worm-like soft, to near brittle. Some are crystal clear, and some are opaque colors. The inherent qualities of PVA make it the ideal, low cost, and easy to use material for Making solid, but flexible clear plastic lure bodies.
The Advanced Lure Design in Sample 1.(left). Is made of PVA; a semi-rigid, (flexible solid), clear plastic that has the feel of firm flesh. The ballast can be fine tuned to zero buoyancy. The body is covered with thousands of shimmering and light reflecting holographic micro sequins that appear to be real fish scales. The lure makes a subtle but audible ticking sound. The lure glows from the inside-out, and leaves a powerful scent trail for the hungry predator to follow. All of the internal workings of this design are held together with an .030 ga. laser cut stainless steel line & hook-set harness plate. The lure can be painted & clear coated to a high gloss shemmering finish with flexible urethane materials from the HOUSE OF KOLOR. Refer to your DIRECTORY for these and other lure making materials.
Second is: Industrial Polymers Inc., Poly-wood. Poly-wood is a Urethane Polymer (RTV) that when cured, has nearly identical qualities as a dense balsa-wood.
Personally; I prefer to make lures from Poly-wood. The reason Poly-wood is my second choice in lure making materials is because this material requires a larger set-up investment than PVA.
As your lure making guide; I will suggest that beginner lure makers stick to the PVA Systems before advancing to Urethane Polymer Systems.
