No goop in mold kits, no worms, fly tying, can openers with hooks, beads on wire, or just another Balsa Wood lure kit.....That's been done already..... This is about designing, and producing retail quality lures that have three dimensional bodies, a natural life-like appearance, and a natural, life-like behavior imagined by you....
This is the stuff we make rigid body lures with:
Industrial Polymers Inc. Polywood™ Micro-Balloon Filled Urethane. Not a Foam.
Polywood™ Flotation Urethane Polymer
For making Top Water, Neutral (zero) Buoyancy Lures.
Polywood™ is a rapid set casting compound filled with silicate glass bead (microballoons). It offers, lightweight, good strength and low 0.53 density.
Potlife (working time after blended) 3 to 5 minutes.
Demold time: 10 to 20 minutes. Ideal working temperature: 72F.
Polywood™ is easily machined, sanded or carved and resists heat to 140°F. It holds screw eyes and glued in attachments without fear of pull-out. It is excellent for casting rigid, non-absorbing, Top Water Lures of all sizes for fresh and saltwater use. It can easily be weight adjusted to float high, or low on the surface. It can also be weight adjusted to sink rapidly, slowly, or be neutral (zero) buoyant. At great depths (high pressure) Polywood™ maintains buoyancy and resists compression.
Rapid Production Equipment
Polywood cannot be Spin Cast into molds as a rapid production method due to seperation of light and heavy blended elements. However; Meter-Mix Injecting systems are ideal for continous flow or one shot static mold injecting. See Factory>Equipment>Meter-Mix. Also: Hand Pump Injector.
Fishing Lure Making Applications
Figure. 1. demonstrates how a Top Water Lure made of polywood, with the weight of hooks added, will float slightly more submerged than center. By moving the belly hook forward or back; you can fine tune the nose up, or nose down attitude of the lure at rest.
Figure A. is a sample of a typical floater/shallow diver. Once again; By moving the belly hook forward or back; you can fine tune the nose up, or nose down attitude of the lure at rest.
Figure B. is the same lure design as Figure A with enough ballast added to cause neutral buoyancy.
Figure C. shows how the ballast is pre-cast onto the line & hookset harness prior to injecting the Polywood that captures the diving bill and hookset harness.
Figure D. shows a slot cut into the solid Polywood body that accepts ballast for neutral buoyancy, or a determined sinking rate.
Figure 2. is a 9” Body, Super Heavy, Steep Dive Angle, Saltwater Trolling Lure.
Water Craft Parts
Water Craft Imagineers: Consider using rust & corrosion proof Polywood™ for casting nonstructural, custom boat fixtures & dressings that require solid mass parts impossible to shape from fiberglass or too expensive to machine from steel or aluminum. Polywood™ can also be used to cast light weight, rust & corrosion proof structural reinforcement parts. Polyood’s natural white color can be stained and clear coated to create the appearance of natural woods.
