"The Rusty Bottom of My Tackle Box"
By John P. Hamon
I am quite sure that if you asked a hundred different fishermen: “What is a fishing Lure”? You would get a hundred different answers. The term “Fishing Lure” can mean just about anything depending on who you ask, what part of the Country, or what Country you are in..... So here’s mine:

A Fishing Lure: “A fishing lure is a decoy with single, or multiple, sharp, barbed attachments (preferably fish hooks) who’s purpose is to motivate a fish to take the decoy into its' mouth; thereby, making the fish attached to the decoy, by the barbed attachments, that are attached to the decoy body, that is attached to a fishing line, that is attached to a fishing pole, that is attached to the fisherman,.... that is attached to a boat,....... or land, I hope"......Pretty simple; don’t you think?

If you can create such a decoy (Fishing Lure) that accomplishes the task of getting attached to a fish, or vise-versa, better than most; the World will truly beat a path to your door. My hat is honorably off to anyone that tries. You have may sincere best wishes for success in all your lure making enterprises...

There are some folks that would insist the first love in every boys' life should be a girl (significant other). There was a time I felt the same way.  Er......... Now I have to come clean by admitting that “significant other(s)” fall somewhere between my collection of used fishing line, my torn, and flat, belly-boat, and the unknowns permanently imbedded in the rusty bottom of my tackle box.

Said differently: When I am not gone fish'n, creating new fishing decoys, or attempting to coach fellow lure makers with books such as this one; I am creating the fish I wish I could catch.

The two fish sculptures (left) are trophy size, Native Upper Kern River, Golden Trout (very rare, and hard to find). They were sculpted by me in exactly the same manner, and with the same tools, and materials featured in the first pages of PROCEDURES, Fishing Lure Design. They were painted using the same methods and materials featured in PROCEDURES, Lure Making Unlimited. Even the pedestal they are attached to, that looks like a piece of drift-wood is sculpted, and made of plastic (Polyester Resins with fillers). These two sculptures also came from molds made in the same fashion as those featured in PROCEDURES> Mold Making.

Point is:...... A lure maker is no longer limited by anything but their imagination. The cost of a starter micro factory is not much more than the cost of "a night-on-the-town, diner-for-two", building a radio control air plane, or the annual membership fees In a swanky golfing club, or any other common sport, or hobby...............

Making fishing lures is a lot like fishing; you have to love it first in order to get good at it. When you do; it will love you back. The payoff comes in the form of recognition from your family, friends and peers, pride in yourself, and the thrill of knowing someone else will experience catching a fish because of something you created. Perhaps; a child catching thier first fish.............remember?....

" First you do it, then you do it better, then you do it faster, then you do it cheaper."

I wish to acknowledge the genius, and hard work of all the Scientist, Chemists, and Engineers (past & present) that made the components of the LMDFG possible. Also; all my significant others (family) that tolerated me during my years of "gone fish'n", and creating the LMDFG, the Software Wizards at HyperPublish.com, who made my e-Books publishing possible, and most of all: My special thanks and gratitude goes to Leta F. PATTERSON,  Wife, Mother, Humanist, and O'l fashoned farm girl who helped, and tolerated me most.

Respectfully;
