Lure Makers do not have to know what Urethane Polymer Resins are made of in ouder to make fishing lures. As for me; I am dumbfounded by the notion of all that occurs just by adding Part A to Part B, as it comes in pre-measured containers, from the factory. Perhaps; we all should take our hats off to the Chemical Engineers that came up with all this wonderful lure making stuff.
Also; keep in mind that Polymer Resins (Plastics) do not require any high temperatures, or high tonnage presses to inject, or pour cast a lure body part. It’s all RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanizing). In the simplest term: Mix two parts together, in the correct ratio, it gets hard. With the addition of a little KEVLAR (Carbon Fiber), Urethane Polymer Resins can get as tuff as steel.
This is the stuff LMDFG Fishing Lures are made of. In particular; Polywood. Polywood is a product of Industrial Polymers Inc. Industrial Polymers Inc. Is a cutting edge polymer chemistry development company that provides hundreds of rubber, soft and rigid urethane polymer RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanized) plastic materials that cater to the needs of small business manufacturers. The Industrial Polymers product menu covers a material for every conceivable application Lure Makers may need.
Polywood is an amazing, cold injection (pour) material that has the same properties as a very dense Balsa Wood. I like to think of Polywood as a liquid Balsa Wood that can be Pour Cast, or Meter-Mix injected into a mold cavity, using the Meter-Mix-Inject System, to form any lure shape, without carving. From there, it just gets better.
High performance, RTV, Urethane Polymer products are easy to use for casting, molding (injecting), coating and sealing applications. When mixed together liquid urethane resins rapidly transform into flexible rubber molds, abrasion resistant coatings or solid plastic parts. Most urethane products contain no volatile organic compounds (V.O.C.) Urethane Polymer Resins cure from internal chemical reaction; no external heating or post curing is required.
Rigid casting urethanes offer a variety of densities, hardness and working life to fit any lure making application. Silicone, aluminized silicone, polyurethane, polyester or epoxy can be used to construct molds for casting products.
A mold-releasing agent such as spray silicone or wax must be used to prevent bonding of casting products to molds. Rigid casting urethanes are designed for easy hand mixing, no heating or cooking is required simply mix and pour, or cold inject using a Miter-Mix-Inject System.
